Self-aware brains

Self-reflection in schizophrenia patients

Schizophrenia has a neurological basis. This is evident from the fact that one percent of the population suffers from schizophrenia. And this figure is more or less the same all over the world. In addition, research on twins shows that in eighty percent of the cases it is hereditary. This prompted  André Aleman and his research group at the Groningen University Medical Center to use neuroscientific methods to study schizophrenia and develop new forms of treatment.
